Can you work overnight or around our trading hours?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Most of our restaurant, bar, retail and office work runs nights, weekends or in phased zones so you never close. We work to your programme with a named site contact, RAMS submitted in advance, and dust and noise controls that suit a live building. We hand back a clean, usable area at the end of every shift, not at the end of the job.

Which tiles are right for a commercial kitchen or restaurant floor?

Accepted Answer

Full-body unglazed porcelain or vitrified quarry tile with a slip rating of R11 or better (R12 in a wet kitchen), laid to falls where there is a gully, with epoxy grout and coved skirting tiles at every wall junction. Epoxy grout matters here: it resists fat, acid, and steam cleaning where cement grout erodes and harbours bacteria. Front of house can then switch to a decorative porcelain or encaustic look because the slip risk is lower.

Do you install brick slips and feature walls?

Accepted Answer

Yes — clay and concrete brick slips, glazed metro tile, zellige, terrazzo, large-format slabs and porcelain-clad columns and bar fronts. Brick slips need a properly fixed backing (board or render, not bare plasterboard), a corner return strategy decided before the first slip goes on, and a pointing mortar colour approved on a sample panel. We always build a sample panel on commercial jobs so the designer signs off the real thing.

What slip resistance rating do we need to meet regulations?

Accepted Answer

The practical benchmark is a pendulum test value (PTV) of 36 or above for a floor that may get wet, which usually means an R11–R12 rated tile in kitchens, entrances, wet changing areas and pool surrounds, and R10 for dry internal circulation. Entrance matting zones matter as much as the tile — most slips happen in the first few metres inside the door. We will specify the tile against your intended use and give you the manufacturer's test data for your file.

Can you handle large-format slabs and thin porcelain panels?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We install 1200x1200mm up to 3200x1600mm panels using suction frames, rail cutting, back-buttering and a levelling system, with substrate flatness checked to ±2mm over 2m before we start. Thin panels are less forgiving than thick tiles: they need a fully supported bed and correctly sited movement joints, or you get corner chips and hollow ring within months.

Do you provide RAMS, insurance and certification for site work?

Accepted Answer

Yes — method statements and risk assessments, public liability cover, CSCS-carded operatives, waste transfer notes and a full O&M pack on handover with tile, adhesive, grout and sealant data sheets plus maintenance instructions. If your principal contractor needs a specific format or a site induction, tell us and we will fit in.

Question 7

How do you price commercial tiling?

Accepted Answer

From drawings and a schedule of finishes where you have them, or from a site measure where you do not. You get a rate per square metre by area, plus separate line items for preparation, movement joints, coving, trims, and out-of-hours working, so you can see exactly what moves if the specification changes. Retentions and stage payments are fine.
